Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
I have PCGS coins, not from China, but can I verify that the coins are legit by contacting PCGS and reading the serial or something?
|
Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
The article says they are using valid serial numbers.
That means, in the first example, that they copied the serial number from a real PCGS slab that held a real 1795 silver dollar. |
Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
Buy the coin not the holder, buy from reputable dealers.

Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
WOW just a few days ago A GIMer spotted one of these 1/10oz Panda's (ungraded) and I checked the seller's other offered items and found a fake (ungraded) silver Panda, actually I knew what too look for due to Gcubed pointing out the fakes had NO denomination on them and the 1/10 also had a flawed rim. I'm sure someone will post more about their find. I know the buyer and seller were both made aware of the fakes but I don't recall what city/state the seller was from.

Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
I have seen alot of faked morgans and trade dollars in this region and can only assume they come from China.
The look is like it was cast in a grainy mold and feel light like they are made of tin and alluminum. Too many people buy these things without batting an eye. |
Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
you know PCGS is gonna milk this right ??
Know what they are gonna do ....... They are gonna say......RESUBMIT YOUR COINS AND WE WILL TRANSFER THEM IN A TAMPER PROOF CASING ALL FOR THE MODEST FEE OF.......XXX OR FOR THE ULTIMATE PEACE OF MIND YOU CAN GET THEM REGRADED...:banghead: That is why I say........buy bullion for business NUMIASTICS FOR FUN.and always make sure you know who you are buying from and they can explain the line on ownership on the subject piece... if they cant tell you .....or a just blurt out a "estate sale"..... be on your guard. This is only gonna get worse as the price of silver climbs to 35 bucks this year T |

Good Article about Chinese Counterfeit coin operation
http://coins.about.com/od/worldcoins...ing-Ring/?nl=1 From About.com Inside a Chinese Coin Counterfeiting Ring Photos of Counterfeit Coin Dies, Minting Machinery, and Fake Coins The photos in this gallery were taken inside a Chinese coin counterfeiting operation. This counterfeiting ring is suspected of putting thousands of fake coins onto the world and U.S. coin markets every month. These striking photos first emerged on certain Web-based coin discussion boards in Europe and the Far East. They came to my attention through a numismatic watchdog/satire blog called Biddle's Bank. These are the same coins which are being put into counterfeit PCGS and NGC coin holders, although they are most frequently sold raw (non-slabbed.) The sheer size, scope, and professionalism of this counterfeiting ring will astonish you. Although the working conditions often appear dirty and the minting equipment is old, this is obviously a well-funded enterprise that is run like a legal business in China. There is no law in China against making these "replicas" as long as they are sold as such. |

Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
You would have to be, shall we say, uninformed to buy anything from a Chinese dealer on ebay. If ebay were at all concerned with their buyers, they would shut off all China based dealers from US sales until the counterfeiting problem is brought under control.
As of now, there is no incentive for anyone in China to give a s***. |
Re: Fake PCGS slabs surface in eBay auctions
Tom there is only ONE reason why Ebay is not gonna "fix "that china problem
